Mordicai Sulk (aka Mike Gorman)

In extreme contrast to his normally bright and cheerful illustrations, Mike Gorman created Mordicai Sulk, an alter ego that paints ghouls and monsters. These are wildly cool, but the most interesting aspect of this is the contrast between the two sides Gorman’s imagination. Maybe this is his way of exorcising his inner demons? Regardless, go compare the Gorman and the Sulk portfolios. Good or evil, it is all great art.

I think I like his Gorman stuff better. I think his style fits that genre better than the monster art.

Maybe if he had a little more variety as Sulk. Gorman’s stuff was far more off the wall, Sulk was just a dozen different zombies, who look pretty similar.

Thanks for the plugs, and the comments!
The series up right now was for a show I had here in town, which is why they look the same (And I agree, there needs to be more variety!)
I am working on 3 new groups of paintings next:
1) A series of “Monster Kids”, similar to the one on my homepage
2) A series of “Vamp Women”, similar to the one titled “Raina”
3) I want to try a series in which everything in the painting is rendered the same as the face: it might be overkill… maybe too dense… but I want to do a few to see how it goes.
Again, thanks for the plug!
