Best/Worst 80s Cartoon Movie Concepts: Worst!

In response to the resurgence of all the great 80s cartoons in Hollywood, we decided to put together another list. We have compiled what we believe to be the 10 best and the 10 worst 80s cartoon movie concepts. First we give you the cartoon, a brief description (for anyone who isn’t familiar) and then OUR movie pitch. We have worked day and night to give you some great and terrible movie ideas! Keep in mind, that just because something is in the “bad idea” section, it doesn’t mean we don’t love it. This is about whether it is a good idea for a movie or not.
So let’s get started! In NO particular order….

An inside look on a culture of bears completely dependent on a performance enhancing substance. In a modern setting, Dunwyn is now a filthy industrial harbor town where Sunni must deal with the horrific sins of her family and the lengths they will go to get a fix. The cartoon features Jake Kong and Eddie Spencer’s sons taking up the family business. Tracy the talking Gorilla continues to help in the family trade. Their inept abilities seem to be genetic as Jake and Eddie Jr. try to solve mysteries and fight ghosts. The Ghostbuster’s main villain was a 5th dimensional evil wizard named Prime Evil.
Chris’s Concept:
The world is laid to waste, billions are dead and the dead walk the Earth. Not mere brainless zombies but thinking, scheming powerful ghosts and creatures of the dark worlds rule the Earth with the extinction of all life their only goal. Prime Evil has opened a permanent portal to the 5th dimension that allows dark creature to move freely between worlds and grants the dead of Earth unnatural powers. Earth’s only hope are the Ghostbusters. A small team with the power and skill to stop Prime Evil and close the portal. Too bad for Earth this team consists of two inept men and a talking Gorilla. Stumbling from one encounter to the next this slap slick side splitting comedy pokes fun at death and the dying. Never has genocide and extinction been so funny. Some how though sheer dumb luck the team of Ghostbusters find themselves face to face with Prime Evil for a final battle to save what is left of mankind. In the pinnacle of mirth, the Ghostbusters are slaughtered and Prime Evil wins the day.

The parents try all combinations of medications and specialist to find a way to break through their daughter’s dementia. The daughter has glassy eyed one sided conversations regarding a complex world were the most important industry is the mining of ‘color’. The girl seems to feel that it is her life quest to gather color and use it in a device called a Color Belt to bring color to Earth. The girls delusions seem complex and detailed which seem to confound doctors even more. After several failed attempts of different drug cocktails and therapies the parents decide to do a risky new operation. The movie ends with the girl being wheeled into surgery and the mother and father crying. Epilogue of white text on black tell of the girl never recovering form surgery and passing away two weeks after the procedure.

Duck Tales
Cartoon:
The adventures and misadventures of Scrooge McDuck and his 3 grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie. Scrooge is the riches duck in the world and has a huge vault full of money, gold and various treasures that he enjoys swimming in. A wide array of supporting characters passed through the show to provide the additional abilities and elements needed to move the stories along from one adventure to the next. Scrooge’s arch-rivals consist of Magica De Spell, Flintheart Glomgold and the Beagle Boys. All want all or part of Scrooge’s vast fortune.
Chris’s Concept:
Live action world with the cast in animatronic masks and suits in the style of Howard the Duck. Scrooge McDuck is no longer a businessman but a crime lord. Now that Donald Duck has received the chair for his part in the crimes and murders committed in the name of McDuck, Scrooge has taken in his three grandnephews to teach the family business. Show follows her adventures and she deals with her double life. Antagonists are rival band The Misfits, led by the spoiled Pizzazz. Jerrica/Jem must also deal with her boyfriend Rio, who is attracted to both Jerrica and Jem while not realizing that they are actually the same person. Dumbass.
Eric’s Concept:
Naturally, this would star any one of the latest teen actresses and most likely be the beginning of a terrible downward spiral of Hollywood parties and drug abuse. Film would follow a girl that has used the Synergy synthesizer to create her own music career. Rival Pizzazz would discover her secret and try to steal Synergy for her own personal gain. Blah. Blah. Blah. This is just too damned horrible to continue. Next!

Talespin
Cartoon:
A spinoff of the animated Disney classic The Jungle Book, Talespin takes many of the characters of the Jungle Book and randomly places them in a semi-modern 1930’s era setting, while also anthropomorphizing them ditching any human characters. Starring Baloo as a cocky delivery pilot who must always be on the lookout for evil air pirates, King Louie as a bar owner and Shere Khan as an evil corporate mogul, Talespin appears in tone to be a more logical spinoff of Duck Tales than The Jungle Book.
Vince’s Concept
Baloo, a washed up former fighter pilot turned delivery pilot gets called out of hibernation and back into action for one last mission, to rescue the daughter of President Khan, who has been kidnapped by evil air pirates while on vacation in the utopian land of Panda-La. Filled with grief over the death of his former navigator and protégé Kit at his own hands, Baloo is reluctant to lift himself out of his drunken haze. Even the knowledge that it was self defense and that the rabid bear he had put down was no longer really his friend, was little solace. However, when contacted by a mysterious member of the underground militant group al-Bagheera, and informed that the rabies that Kit contracted while on a secret mission was in fact a plot of then Senator Khan, Baloo springs into action, suspecting that more might be going with his selection for this mission than meets the eye. A mixture of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Talespin: THE MOVIE would be a globe-trotting adventure filled with talking animals and special effects, as well as special effects and then if time and lack of plot allows, more special effects. Special effects.

Care Bears
Cartoon:
A group of bears from the Kingdom of Caring that go forth in on missions of caring to help people. Each bear had a symbol on their belly that indicated their name and motivation. Various villains would stand in the way of the Care Bear’s missions. The Care Bear’s held a secret weapon of the ‘Care Bear Stare’, which was a focused ray of light, love, and good cheer that a group of Care Bears would launch at the heart of their target.
Chris’s Concept:
Live action world with cast in suits with possible CG elements. The Care Bear Bunch would tackle gay and lesbian issues and try to bring love, understanding and most importantly, caring to the hearts of those who stood in the way of equal right for homosexuals. The Care Bear’s arch enemy, Professor Coldheart was in a constant search for the cure to the Gay Gene and a way to destroy the Care Bears forever. The Care Bears are pushed to their limits of caring as Coldheart claiming to have found the cure he has so long searched, plans to immunize the gay and lesbian populations of the Kingdom of Caring. When all seems lost, the ‘Care Bear Stare’ is used on Coldheart to stop him once and for all… (imagine the end of Raider of the Lost Ark). Once Coldheart is defeated, the Care Bears finally realize their dreams of equality for all in a caring and loving world.

My Little Pony
Cartoon:
The Little Ponies live peacefully in Ponyland. Between frolicking and singing, they must defend themselves against various evils. In the animated film, the wicked witch Hydia and her two nasty daughters, Reeka and Draggle threaten to flood Ponyland with the gooey Smooze. Yeah, that’s right. The ponies are aided by a strange race called the Grundles whose home had already been flooded by the Smooze.
Eric’s Concept:
In this animated film, the Mother Hydia Glue Company comes to Ponyland. Armed with machetes, Reeka and Draggle begin to systematically slaughter the ponies. While fleeing for their lives, the ponies encounter the Grundles, creatures created by lost pony souls possessing the glue they were used to create. The remaining ponies and Grundles return to Ponyland to face the evil witch and her daughters, only to be mowed down by their giant mechanical pony-harvesting machine.
————————————————————————–

The Smurfs
Cartoon:
The Smurfs are a race of tiny blue creatures that live in a mushroom village located somewhere in the forests of medieval Europe. They have various adventures, often dealing with the evil alchemist Gargamel and his equally evil cat Azrael. We all know the Smurfs, right?
Eric’s Concept:
Smurfette is stunned to learn from Brainy Smurf that juice of the Smurfberries is the only substance keeping the all male Smurfs’ sexual urges at bay. That if there were ever a shortage of the Smurfalicious fruit, there would be sexually crazed chaos. Naturally, the nefarious Gargamel is eavesdropping. Gargamel proceeds to burn the entire supply of Smurfberries, but quickly realizes that he has made a mistake. It seems that sexually insane Smurfs have increased strength and are not gender or species specific. Leaving Gargamel and Azrael to be sexually assaulted by a mob of Smurfs, Brainy and Smurfette escape with Brainy’s potted Smurfberry bush. Smart guy gets the girl, and evil guy gets it in the end. Heh.

I liked all of these programmes as a child!
March 15th, 2008 at 6:27 am
Ok Chris. You really need to stop looking at these cartoons so hard. Do you really think a child is going to watch the Care Bears and see homosexuals??? If I asked my 6 year old nephew what is a homosexual he would not know what I am talking about.
As a child I watched all of these cartoons and I still don’t see all that you see. All I see is the good guys vs. the bad guys. What love can do and what hate can do. All I see is what we try to make our children do. Love all and hate no one.

if you dont know what i am saying, then grab a dvd copy of these cartoons and start watching. its worth watching.

Man, what are all these doing in the worst pile, sure there might be 1 or 2 -like the ghost busters and that start lady thing that belong there.
But when my friends and i think back to the good times, we think straight back to those cartoons. They rocked.
Either you havn’t seen them or your nerdy analytical side is getting to you. Seriously, almost every late 80s early 90s cartoon was awsome.
May 19th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
ok as its been stated a lot these are some of the greatest cartoons, add 3-4 more and take out 1 or 2 and you have my favs list from the 80’s.

Transformers
Alvin and the chipmunks
Turtles(went well into the 90’s better started in the 80’s)

May 20th, 2008 at 10:26 am
Retards, huh? Let me point out that this is the WORST list. Not only that, but many of the shows you are listing are referenced on the BEST list. As stated in the intro, we left off the properties that have been developed, or are currently in development.
To understand what we are doing here, you have to actually read the words, and not just look at the pictures.
